Engagement sessions are always a good idea. However, they are especially a good idea if one or both of you are nervous about being in front of the camera on your wedding day. A few other reasons could be:
- To get some photos with your trial run hair and makeup.
- To use for a wedding website and/or save the dates.
- So you’ll have some photos of the two of you in your “normal” clothes.
- It gives me a chance to spend more time with you so I’ll feel more like a friend on your wedding day.
Location
The Central Coast has so many amazing spots. You can choose a place that is special to you both (for example, Adam and my first date was to Avila Beach). Or, if you’re just looking for a certain feel, I’m happy to give suggestions based on what you’re looking for. If you love your home, maybe consider an in-home session. We can typically do 2 locations (and 2 outfit changes), sometimes 3 if they are close to each other, but it would cut down on shooting time.
Timing
Beginning about 90 minutes before sunset is usually ideal. We’ll start somewhere a little shaded and then work out to the open as the sun starts to set. We’ll then keep photographing until dusk.
What to Wear
This might be what you’re most stressed about. I hear ya! Everytime we have our photos taken this is my main stressor. There are no hard rules about what you should wear. It’s great if it something that feels a little daring but still very “you.” It can also be as casual or formal as you would like it to be. I’m always a sucker for earth tones (muted colors) and comfortable shoes (there is usually a lot of walking/hiking involved). I’m always happy to consult with outfits if you want to text me what you’re thinking about. We’ll typically have time for 2 outfits.
What To Expect
I know you’ll probably be suddenly very aware of your hands (“where do I normally put them?!”) and feel a little awkward. That is totally normal. The good news is that you get to have your best friend with you and I will give as much or as little direction as needed. Because I love movement, there will be a lot of walking around, looking at each other, and probably some lame jokes from me. You can also expect that I’m going to be really excited to photograph the two of you. Engagement sessions top my list of favorites.
